Nusa Penida, dubbed the ‘island of demons’ by the Balinese, is a raw, untouched island with stunning limestone cliffs, crystal blue bays and rolling green hills. Explore its attractions like Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach and Angel’s Billabong.
Visit the unique curved coastline of Kelingking Beach, which resembles a T-Rex from above!
Kelingking Beach
Kelingking Beach is one of Nusa Penida’s top attractions. It’s become famous online thanks to pictures of the stunning T-Rex shaped cliff that overlooks the blue ocean below. It’s a beautiful sight that you have to see in person to believe.
The tour also stops at the Rumah Pohon Tree Houses, which are small houses built into the trees high on a hill and offer amazing views of Diamond Beach below. They are super popular on Instagram with hundreds of photographers descending daily to get the perfect shot. If you book far enough in advance, you can even spend the night here for a unique experience.
This is the first stop on a nusa penida tour that explores the rocky west coast of the island. You’ll visit a temple called the Car Temple (Pura Paluang or “Pura Mobil” by locals) before heading up to Kelingking Cliff, which offers awesome views of a green arm of the coastline. You’ll also visit Broken Beach, a cool circular cove with a leftover arch in the rock that allows the ocean to flow into it.
If you want to combine your visit to Kelingking with snorkeling, try the West Nusa Penida & Snorkeling Tour. It’s the best way to make sure you can visit both of these incredible places without rushing around on different tours.
Paluang Cliff
Located just a few minutes from Keliking Beach is Paluang Cliff. This popular viewpoint is perfect for watching the sunset without all of the crowds. You can enjoy the spectacular views of the ocean and the sky while you sit on a bench or relax in a lounge chair. There are also a few warungs and restaurants nearby, so you can get snacks or a quick bite to eat.
The cliff has been gaining popularity since it was made accessible in 2018. It’s an incredible natural attraction that can be seen from the main road of Nusa Penida. You can see photos of this unique cliff online, but it’s even more amazing to be standing right in front of it. It’s a must-see destination for anyone visiting the island.
You can find a few places to get food or drink around the area of Paluang Cliff, but it’s best to bring your own snacks and water. This is because there may be steep drops or other hazards off of the beaten path.
To avoid the stress of driving yourself, you can hire a taxi at the harbor to take you to Paluang Cliff. This is the most convenient way to explore the island if you’re traveling with a group of people. You can also rent a scooter, which allows you to travel much faster and pass through narrow roads with ease.
Tree House Molenteng
A visit to the Batu Molenteng Tree House is one of the highlights of a tour to Nusa Penida. This unique treehouse has become a popular attraction because of its location and stunning views. While the treehouse is not available to stay in, you can pay 10,000 IDR to enter and take photos. However, you should bring water and snacks because it can be very hot up there!
The treehouse is located on a cliff on the southeast side of the island near Atuh and Diamond beaches. It is also known as the Thousand Islands Viewpoint, and it offers spectacular views of both sides of the island’s coastline. While the treehouse is not for the faint of heart, it is a must-see for all visitors to Nusa Penida.
This unique cliff-top treehouse was built with natural materials and measures about 4 x 4 meters. It is a great place to take pictures and enjoy the beautiful view of the beach and cliffs. It is also home to many gamal trees, which are a staple food for animals in Bali.
If you want to visit the treehouse, you can book a tour from any of the numerous companies that offer Nusa Penida tours. However, it is recommended to book a full-day tour that includes all the top spots on both the east and west sides of the island.
Diamond Beach
Unlike Kelingking beach, which is completely off limits to tourists due to the dangerous cliffs, Diamond Beach is accessible for everyone. This beautiful white sand beach is located at the bottom of a staircase which offers stunning views. There is a swing and a nest right on the beach which makes this spot one of the most instagrammable spots in Nusa Penida. However, these two features come with a small fee as they are managed by the guy who owns the small shop near the beach.
You can also stroll around the entire bay and enjoy the amazing view of waves crashing down on the cliffs. This is one of the best spots to take pictures in the whole island as you will have no problem getting a perfect photo. After spending enough time on the beach, you can make your way back up to the staircase and head towards the parking lot.
The best way to explore the beauty of this island is by booking an overnight stay in one of the many accommodation options available. This is especially true if you are going on a tour as some of the more popular spots can get quite crowded during the day. You will find that the accommodations are very affordable and you can choose from some of the most gorgeous places that offer incredible views and even include breakfast!
