League of Legends is the world’s most popular video game with millions of players and eSports tournaments attracting over 100 million viewers. It has complex mechanics, multiple roles to play and learn, a meta to keep up with, and a professional eSports scene that pushes the boundaries of what it means to be a top-tier player.
To help players navigate this whirlwind of complexity, Riot recently released a new suite of tools designed to improve the player experience. These new tools are aimed at helping players develop their skills through practice and guided learning, and provide insight into how well they’re performing.
Among the new tools is an online survey that asks players to rate their level of enjoyment and satisfaction with the game, as well as a set of questions related to their gaming behavior. The survey is based on a well-validated typology of motives for engaging in an activity (Vallerand et al., 2003; Przybylski et al., 2009) and is adapted to the context of League of Legends.
The survey was developed by researchers at Stanford University and the University of California, Irvine. It is available on the League of Legends website. It has been correlated with in-game metrics, such as the number of games played and how many different champions a player has tried out. The results indicate that the majority of League of Legends players enjoy the game and would be happy to spend a few hours playing it every day. 롤대리
