Gallons per minute is a unit of volume flow rate. This calculator is useful for converting a given volume of water to its equivalent flow rate in gallons per minute. This conversion is commonly used for comparing showerheads or water heaters to see which one uses less water, or for determining the minimum number of gallons per minute that a pipe can handle.
The calculator has two different modes: gallons per minute (GPM) and cubic feet per second (CFS). Enter the desired expression in the first field, select the mode you wish to use in the drop-down menu, then click “Calculate”. The converted expression will appear in the last field. You can also select the psi to gallons per minute converter on the left side of this page to convert pressure into flow rate.
It’s important to note that GPM and PSI are not the same units. GPM measures the flow rate of liquid, while PSI measures pressure. If you are trying to convert from psi to gpm, the formula is slightly different: you will need to know the diameter of your pipe, and divide the pressure by the cross-sectional area of your pipe.
The easiest way to calculate a GPM is by using a one gallon container and timing how long it takes to fill. Then divide 60 by your timed results to find the GPM. For example, if it took five seconds to fill the container, then 5 / 60 = 21.4 GPM. gpm to lpm converter
